about

“Bow-card Canyon” was the name of a drawing I did in a sketchbook. Not a real place, hence the question mark in the lyrics. “Bass strings” was a code-phrase for weed that Country Joe and the Fish used to use in the ‘60s. “You live in the wrong side of your heart” is a line I cribbed from my song “Open Up!” on the hat. Album. Conceptual continuity y’know.

lyrics

Use the word “epaulets” rather romantically
Gaze at my face changing color in the sun
This truth’s empirical: life is a miracle
Bow-card Canyon?

You say “cling clang” like an emperor
Changing bass strings in the evening sun
I ain’t satirical: life is a miracle
Bow-card Canyon?

Why, why so hard for me to cry?
Locked up, blocked up, why why why?
Looking for ammo to use in the war
you’ve waged against those who love you
You live in the wrong side of your heart

Sun Flute! Caught in a dream!
It’s like a red flute ticking the hours
