about

Acoustic tune bemoaning the lack of calm reason in much online discourse, seasoned by some Dad-style complaining about people spending all their time on their phones, as if I don’t do the same exact thing. Me on MOST vocals and instruments, but also featuring a beautiful drum performance from Eric Slick (who has played with Dr. Dog and the Adrian Belew Band, and also recently played on “You All Over Me” from Taylor Swift’s Fearless (Taylor’s Version), thus greatly reducing the points of separation between me and Taylor Swift.

lyrics

Red flowers on your wallpaper wall
Don't make sense, you don't like 'em at all
Hit “record,” leave it on all day
Huge stack of tape gonna get in your way
Ease on out, come on outta there
I won't be a traitor, I will only play fair
I'll only play fair

And life gets cold when fools get bold
I understand it hurts your heart
All the fools are throwing shade
Mercury in second grade

We gotta wear life lightly
We gotta stay cool
Stand and survive the cowardly cruel
Aim a quick kick at the barricade

Understand it hurts your heart
When the fiery plot is played
Mercury in second grade

Phone addicts
Settling scores
Y'all oughta keep your phone in your drawers

Raw emotion
Muddling truth
Hooked on trash they were fed in their youth

I thought I should be trying
To understand the minds
Of those who feel so differently
From me

Let's give the booze a miss
My brain can't take a drug
Much later for a kiss
I think I need a hug

I seemed like a guy
Ready to leap from the shadows and cry
In full armor
Clamoring for megaphones
In hoarse stirring tones
In loud passion moans

I think we should be trying
To understand the minds
Of those who feel so differently...

I left my fresh O’s in the pen
My I’s for dotting
I left them rotting

Let's hear it for your heart
All the squabbly talk'll fade
Mercury in second grade
